Coordinated through the Student Success Center, Freshman Seminar is a required one credit hour course for all first-time, full-time Freshman and full-time transfer students with less than 30 semester hours.
The course is designed to assist new WVU Institute of Technology students in making a smooth transition into the Tech community. Through this course, new students learn about university life, career goals and academic and personal skills necessary for successfully completing the all-important first semester at Tech.
Students are grouped into course sections according to academic majors with senior students assigned as Freshman Seminar Mentors. The course is delivered by the Division of Student Development, the College of Engineering and the College of Business, Humanities and Social Sciences in an integrated format.
Various members of the faculty, staff and administration also provide information concerning university policies and procedures. Students have an opportunity to establish early relationships with their academic departments and confer with their academic advisor in developing short-term and long-range academic and career plans.
